Rivian brings ‘R3’ crossover with new additions
On March 7, Rivian unveiled its new $45,000 R2 electric SUV but CEO, CEO RJ Scaringe surprised everyone by bringing its successor Rivian R3.
Rivian R3 is a compact crossover and only a few specifications are available about this electric vehicle but the company has shared the entire design to explore.
It has a wheelbase of 110 inches (2800 mm) compared to Rivian R2 with a 115.6-inch wheelbase, 121.1 inches in R1S, and 135.8 inches in R1T.
So, the size of the new Rivian R3 appears as a big form factor in comparison to other Rivian vehicles. It makes the vehicle suitable for urban driving and maneuverable in tidy traffic.
Rivian chief said that the company has based this new vehicle on a re-scaled Rivian R2 platform with three drivetrains – Single Motor, Dual motor, and Tri-motor.
Inside:
Rivian R3 carries the same materials in the cabin as the R2 including the steering wheel. It equips two glove boxes and a flashlight in the front gate. There is a separate climate control for the passenger seats.
Front:
The front of the R3 equips a storage trunk to store luggage and tools. The wide LED bar and two oval front headlights are also coming with this crossover.
Back:
Scaringe especially gave a round tour of the liftgate with new flipper glass. Its range can be adjusted based on the user’s preference. This feature comes in handy to put anything inside the vehicle without opening the tailgate first.
Additionally, users can flat out all of the seats inside the vehicle to make a large space for camping.
Furthermore, the tailgate has a wide taillight bar with “RIVIAN” branding underneath. It has sort of retro car vibes with that rear spoiler.
R3 is our take on what a crossover can be — built on the same midsize platform as R2, but smaller and at a lower price point.#RivianR3 pic.twitter.com/V6nDXbF95F
