Tesla NACS Charging Adapter

Rivian R2 is coming in two days and a bunch of new information has already been leaked online about this electric vehicle (EV) which suggests that the R2 could be the first to add the Tesla NACS charging port.

Major automakers have committed to launching new EVs with Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) starting in 2025 and also enabling charging adapter support for existing EVs.

Ford last week released a free NACS adapter for F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E vehicles across North America. The automaker was also the first to sign a NACS partnership with Tesla last year.

Rivian followed as the close second and it is next in line to launch NACS support. Tesla officially confirmed that Rivian will roll out NACS for its vehicles starting Spring this year alongside GM, Volvo, and Polestar.

Tesla has over 27,000 stalls for charging stalls, 15,000+ stalls for NACS, and over 500 stalls for other EVs across the US and Canada.

Rivian R2 Tesla NACS:

X social media user @Hilbe has shared a screenshot of the alleged Rivian R2 specifications crawled through the Rivian website. The screenshot mentions NACS and Tesla throughout the values of its features.

I’ve marked the areas with red in the screenshot to ease up the findings.

It mentioned the terms “NACS charge port” and “Charge anywhere – from the Rivian Adventure Network to Tesla Superchargers. Our charging system allows for fast charging with NACS or CCS when you’re out and about.”.

Rivian R2 will unveil on March 7 and it’s likely to take bookings at the earliest and fix a delivery date for later this year expanding up to 2025. So, this could make some sense about the NACS chargeport.

Meanwhile, the company could rollout free NACS adapters for R1T and R1S vehicles by this month. More information about the Rivian R2 will be revealed at the launch event.
