Mercedes-Benz launches 11.5 kW EV charger in the U.S.

Mercedes-Benz today launched its new electric vehicle (EV) charger across the U.S. featuring an 11.5 kW rate for customers who prefer charging at home.

This new EV charger supports EV or Plug-in hybrid charging overnight based on the battery size and the reduced battery levels.

Mercedes-Benz Wallbox brings online connectivity and customers can operate the charger remotely via the Mercedes-connected app on their smartphone. The app offers features such as starting and stopping charging sessions.

Users can track the current charging status, display the charging history, and estimate home charging costs based on the energy rate and amount of energy consumed during charging.

The Mercedes-Benz Wallbox will receive over-the-air software updates to support the latest features. It will also provide a security interface that safekeep the vehicle against unauthorized access using the Mercedes me connect app or RFID card.

This new charger has 11.5 kW of charging out on a 240V split-phase circuit. The automaker said that the new Wallbox provides 8x faster than conventional household outlets.

It equips LED lights to indicate charging status and brings safety components to provide additional protection against fault currents in real time. Mercedes-Benz Wallbox has a 23-foot charging cable.

This new charging box supports all Mercedes-Benz electric and Plug-in hybrid vehicles as well as EVs from other carmakers with SAE J1772 charging inlet.

Availability

The Mercedes-Benz Wallbox is available through its Mercedes-Benz Wallbox dealers. Once purchased, the customer needs a certified electrician for installation. Customers can also contact the carmaker to receive a free installation quote in less than 10 minutes.
