Google-backed electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure startup Gravity Mobility has opened the first public EV chargers in New York.

These new chargers have the size of a carry-on suitcase compared to large charging stalls.

Gravity said that it can produce thousands of such fast chargers and it’s already working on new sites for deployment. Gravity Mobility CEO Mosche Cohen said in an interview that the company could ramp up its charger fleet similar to or more than Tesla’s per year installation.

Tesla has the current largest Superchargers network across North America featuring 15,000 chargers. The EV maker has signed partnerships with all of the major car makers to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS). Last week, Ford rolled out NACS support for its Ford F150-Lightning and Mustang Mach-E vehicles.

Gravity says it has plans to bring more chargers across the U.S. with new installation points. However, the company seeks investment to accomplish growth.
