Ford opens ‘Free’ Tesla NACS charging adapter reservations
Ford today opened reservations for Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E customers who want to get a free Tesla NACS charging adapter.
With this new announcement, Ford became the first non-Tesla automaker to gain access to Tesla Superchargers in North America.
This new adapter will be provided free of cost for new and existing customers enrolled in the BlueOval Charge Network before July 1, 2024.
“Ford is saying thank you to its electric vehicle customers by making the Fast charging Adapter available at no cost,” wrote the company.
Tesla has more than 15,000 SuperChargers across the U.S. and Canada and the adapter will help customers to charge at upgraded Tesla Superchargers.
“I am proud Ford is first to offer our customers this access. With Tesla, Superchargers added to the Ford BlueOval Charge Network, it more than doubles the fast chargers available to them. Paid with Plug & Charge, no other apps are added to start a charge” said Jim Farley, CEO of Ford.
The announcement also follows yesterday’s teaser with a NACS connector.
Reservations
Starting today, Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E customers can reserve a unit of NACS charging adapter through Ford’s website. However, this free offer is only available to claim until June 30, 2024.
Afterward, customers are required to purchase a retail unit for $230 including estimated tax and shipping.
Customers reserving their free adapter will be contacted this Spring by mail at the registered address with Ford Pro or via the Ford Pro account manager to order an adapter.
BlueOval
Tesla superchargers will work seamlessly with Ford’s BlueOval Charge Network which integrates payment accounts through the FordPass App or Charge Assist App using the vehicle’s touchscreen.
Users with BlueOval account can plug and charge at a Tesla Supercharger and charges will be managed automatically via FordPass.
Ford has also planned to launch future vehicles with a pre-built North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector which will remove the requirement for an external connector.
