Renault unveils $27,000 R5 E-Tech EV with 249 miles range

Renault today revealed its Renault R5 E-Tech electric car with a new design, long-drive range, and stylish design at 25,000 euros ($27,000).

The company said the car was developed three years after announced as a concept in 2021. The company has manufactured the vehicle in France and starts at 25,000 euros.

Renault 5 E-Tech electric equips AmpR Small platform designed and developed by Ampere for B-segment electric vehicles (EVs). It has a 2.54m wheelbase, 326 liters of interior space, and boot capacity along with 1,500 kg reduced weight and lower centers of gravity.

This EV brings new AC bidirectional chargers compatible with V2L (vehicle to load) and V2G (vehicle to grid) technologies. It will be available in three motor power ratings including 110, 90, and 70 kW.

Renault 5 E-Tech electric supports 80 or 100 kW DC charger for a better capacity of 52 kWh that could increase up to 400 km WLTP (249 miles) range. The EV also has a towing capacity of 500 kg.

Mobilize Power Solutions

Renault 5 E-Tech electric features an OpenR Link system with built-in Google built-in along with 50 apps and integrated services. The car has an official AI avatar which will be a companion to the drivers with voice recognition.

The car will offer a smart cocoon soundproofing system and an acoustic windscreen as well as heat pumps that provide thermal comfort while consuming less energy.

It features driving aids (ADAS) consisting of intelligent adaptive cruise control, Active Driver Assist, and a level 2 automated driving technology.

Renault dealerships network offers a charging solution for customer’s homes. Its smart charger delivers smart home charging at a lower cost, and charge pass to access more than 600,000 public charging points across 25 European markets with a single card.

This system uses hands-free mode at compatible DC network charging points and plug-in to start charging and conduct billing without a card or code with the Plug and Charge feature.
