Scythe electric lawnmower adopts Tesla’s charging standard (NACS)

Scythe Robotics announced to adoption of Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge port for its electric M.52 smart lawnmower.

The Colorado-based robotics company will integrate NACS charging capabilities into an all-electric autonomous mower that will be released in Q4 2024.

With this move, Scythe becomes the first non-automotive electric vehicle to adopt NACS opening the way for its wider adaptation in electric commercial equipment in different categories.

NACS:

Widely known as the Tesla charging standard or SAE J3400 has been adopted by leading automakers in the industry. These include Ford, General Motors, Stelantis, BMW, Toyota, and others that will start integrating into EVs by 2025.

This adaptation will allow these EV makers to access Tesla’s supercharger network, which is by far the largest in North America. Scythe M.52 will also capitalize on Tesla’s charging infrastructure for its customers to make charging more accessible.

M.52:

This next generation of M.52 will start production in late 2024, it will equip NACS components pre-launch. Existing M.52 units will also be able to use Tesla’s charging network via the NACS-to-J1772 connector.

The current version of M.52 equips 52 tri-blade rear-discharge, 20×12″ tires, and flat-free casters, 15HP deck power, 20HP drive motor, 10 MPH top speed. The mower also features LTE and WiFi connectivity to operate on its own.

It is packed with 360-degree sensors to collect information and detect surroundings. On one charge, the mower could run a full day, as listed on the official website but there’s no specific capacity revealed.
