Apple rumored to produce 50 million foldable phones
The ups and downs in the foldable Apple phone story continue to occur and the latest one indicates that the company could produce 50 million foldable.
A report from Korea’s Alphabiz reveals that Apple is aiming to sell around 50 million units globally with its first products. An expected launch date for such a product could be 2026-27 but there’s no official announcement in this matter.
This new input appeared a few days after a Chinese source from the social media site Weibo suggested that the company has temporarily paused the production of foldable devices.
It was mentioned that Apple is actively working on foldable phones and researching durable foldable screens. However, its foldable projects have been facing compatibility and durability issues with screens provided by the suppliers.
The Information previously shared information that Apple has developed two prototypes that fold similarly to a clamshell. These two prototypes could be produced in 2024-25 and a commercial unveiling could happen in 2026.
Samsung and LG are the two key display suppliers that are sending samples for the next foldable Apple device. The Cupertino-based firm is also exploring options to get hinge components from Taiwanese partners.
These South Korean companies are adjusting management in the display department to meet Apple’s requirements.
It is also rumored that Apple has reassigned its workforce from its Vision Pro mixed reality headset. A person related to this matter said that several personnel have been transferred to the foldable phone development team to produce the foldable phone.
This change may have intrigued me by observing the initial response for the $3499 product.
Eventually, there’s no solid ground appearing in the positive and negative news around Apple’s foldable but the rumor wagon continues.
