Meta CEO compares Apple Vision Pro with Quest 3
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has published his review of the new Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset and compared it with his company’s Quest 3 product from the same generation.
X user Greg Isenberg has shared a breakdown of Mark’s comparison as the following.
Mark said the Quest 3 costs 7 times less than the Vision Pro. In terms of pricing the Quest 3 starts at $499 and Vision Pro at $3499 for the base model.
He mentioned Quest 3 is more comfortable and weighs less than Vision Pro. The number says that Quest 3 weighs 515 grams and Vision Pro weighs 600-650 grams.
As an early adopter, Apple Vision Pro lags in gaming, Xbox, and YouTube experience compared to Quest 3 in Mark’s review. With these points, Meta chief calls Quest 3 a better product than Apple’s Vision Pro.
But there’s more that we can explore on paper, Vision Pro equips a micro-OLED 4k resolution display at 90Hz refresh and a 100-degree field of view. Quest 3 on the other hand has LCD, 2064×2208 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 110-degree field of view.
Apple’s mixed reality head uses M2 chip + custom sensor chip and Quest 3 has Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset. Users of the Vision Pro found the user interface more compelling than Quest 3.
In the interaction section, the Apple device has hand and eye tracking sensors built into the headset and the Meta device operates through Touch Pro controllers. With these, the iPhone maker aims to reduce extra device requirements and goes for full gesture controls.
On a positive note, aspects of Mark’s review such as price, field of view, controls, and ease of access sums up his argument. Apple can work on these things in the next version and make the device more buyer-friendly.
