Honda launches Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto add-on for 631,000 Accords

Honda announced on Tuesday a new add-on feature to enable wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality in Honda Accord ranging from 2018 to 2022 model years.

The carmaker said that this move would increase the usability of this vehicle and extend the vehicle’s sustainability with new upgrades and digital services.

The new add-on feature will be installed by Honda dealers in over 631,000 Accord models across the U.S.

These models from 2018-2022 are equipped with wired-only Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to enable wireless integrated access to certain smartphone apps, music, navigation, and voice assistants.

The wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade can be installed by an authorized Honda dealer with an MSRP of $112 and there will be a separate labor charge.

Honda Certified Pre-Owned Accord models will come with pre-installed wireless capability for free of cost.

Although it’s not clear whether Honda would make hardware changes to the car but It is affirmed that a software upgrade is involved in this matter.

Jay Joseph, Vice President of the Sustainability and Business Development Division at American Honda Motor explained that this software update will enable customers to leverage “hardware already in Honda Accord vehicle” to enable wireless connectivity.
