Toyota suspends Trucks and SUV shipments over faulty diesel engines
Toyota on Monday temporarily suspended shipments of Trucks and SUVs due to irregularities found in the diesel engines of corresponding vehicles.
This irregularity has been found by Toyota’s special investigation committee and reported by Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO).
This fault is related to the horsepower output testing for the certification of three diesel engine models made by TICO for Toyota vehicles.
During the certification test, the horsepower output performance of engines was measured using ECUs with software that differed from that used for mass production so that results could be measured to make values appear smoother with less variation.
The affected engines are installed in 10 Toyota vehicles globally and 6 in Japan. The Japanese carmaker said that it has re-verified the mass-produced vehicles manufactured at the plant and confirmed that the affected engines and vehicles meet the engine performance output standards.
“There is no need to stop using the affected engines or vehicles. However, we deeply apologize to our customers who have been supporting affected vehicles” wrote the car maker.
Based on the findings, TICO has temporarily suspended shipments of all faulty engines and vehicles with such engine components.
The company also said that it will “provide a detailed explanation to the authorities and promptly proceed with appropriate measures, including conducting testing in the presence of witnesses if appropriate”.
Here are all of the vehicles loaded with affected engines:

- Land Cruiser Prado
- Hiace/Grance/Bongo Brawny Van (MAZDA)
- Dyna/Dutro (Hino)
