Tesla is likely to start the production of its next electric vehicle (EV) model somewhere in the second half of 2025, confirms the EV maker on Wednesday.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the production would take “a tremendous amount of new revolutionary manufacturing technology” required. It suggests that production might take some time to reach volume production capacity.

A report earlier pointed out that Tesla is working with suppliers to produce the net generation of Tesla vehicles as a “compact crossover”.

Musk said, during the Tesla’s 2023 earning call, “We’ll be sleeping on the line practically” referring to preparations at the Tesla manufacturing site to produce a new EV model.

Initially, the company planned to assemble the new EV model at its Texas factory, followed by production in Mexico and another factory which could be announced later this year.

“We are focused on bringing the next-generation platform to market as quickly as we can, with the plan to start production at Gigafactory Texas. This platform will revolutionize how vehicles are manufactured” said Tesla chief.

Production is a serious issue for a car maker, thus setting up a full-blown production line may take some time. For example, the Tesla Cybertruck and other new ideas take extra effort to bring those products out of the assembly line.

It’s currently unknown when Tesla will be able to push the production button for this new vehicle.

Price is another aspect that customers might be looking for in this new vehicle. The shrinking demand for EVs is a precise answer to current customer interest.

To capitalize on the momentum, Big EV players are now exploring ways to produce affordable EV options to increase EV sales but a launch is still pending.
