Uber offering drivers $2,000 incentives to buy Tesla Model 3/Y
Uber has come up with a new plan that may increase its electric vehicle (EV) driver fleet in the U.S. by offering up to $2,000 in incentives to buy a new Tesla Model Y and 3.
The latest move is under a partnership between Tesa and the ride-hailing company to promote the use of electric vehicles by its drivers in the United States.
Uber is offering up to $2,000 in purchase incentives exclusively for its drivers to buy Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. What’s more important is that this incentive will be come separate from the $7,500 Federal tax credit.
Both Model 3 and Model Y are eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit. With Uber’s new announcement, incentives will now total $9,500 on each model.
Tesla has recently announced all of the new vehicles can claim the point-of-sale tax credit, which is the easiest way to claim the tax credit without waiting to file your tax return.
However, Uber’s incentive might be a little tricky. It will provide drivers a referral code to purchase vehicles directly from Tesla’s factory or available inventory until the supplies last.
Drivers with codes must purchase and receive the Tesla vehicle through March 31 and complete 100 trips by May 15 to become eligible for the $2,000 incentives.
Furthermore, the company is also sharing data with Tesla on where its drivers need charging stations including areas with most trips.
Andrew Macdonald, Senior vice president of mobility and business operations at Uber said that his company is working with Tesla to reduce the cost of EV ownership and improve the access to charging infrastructure.
Based on the past year’s data, Uber had 74,000 EV drivers in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
