Suzuki Hungary pauses production due to supply delay
Suzuki Motor’s has decided to put a halt on its production plant in Hungary for a week, said the company on Monday.
The production pause affects two vehicles – Vitara and S-Cross and it will remain in effect from January 15 to Jan. 21. The announcement follows two of the major EV makers Tesla and Volvo, which suspended production in Europe following Red Sea attacks in the region.
However, Suzuki differed from these two car makers and said that the production pause for the respective vehicle is related to shipment delays in Japanese-made engines.
Suzuki built an automobile manufacturing plant in Esztergom, Hungary in 1991. It hosts thousands of employees and recruits more each year.
In 2022, the plant produced 129,022 cars with an annual increase of 20%. The plant is majorly known for its production capability and export, which is majorly around the Suzuki Vitara and S-cross models.
In May 2023, Suzuki announced plans to make 168,000 cars at the Esztergom plant by the entire year. This figure represents a 50% increase compared to 2021. However, there’s no exact information on how much the company has produced in the past year at its Hungarian site.
