Starlink Mini backpack satellite internet terminal to launch this year says SpaceX CEO

SpaceX today announced a Starlink Mini terminal that will come with a portable design to offer satellite internet on the go and could even fit your backpack.

The latest confirmation about Starlink Mini is coming from SpaceX Founder and CEO, Elon Musk during the annual SpaceX missions and technological advancements at the company.

“We’ll be introducing Starlink Mini later this year, which can fit in back,” Musk said while addressing the portability of the Starlink Mini, of which a video was published on social media site X/Twitter.

Last September, the Federal Communication Commission approved the Starlink Mini terminal device, which could be the size of an Apple notebook. Yet, there was no official statement available about this portable Starlink up until today.

Although SpaceX has provided no details about the price or the specifications but its chief does mention that the terminal will be “affordable”.

“It will be pretty cool for anyone who wants an affordable” added Musk.

Currently, the standard  Starlink home hardware costs $599, so we’ll have to wait to see what kind of difference Starlink would make in affordability for customers.

Next Gen Hardware:

SpaceX also shared an update on Starlink V4 next-generation hardware for terminals.

“We’ve now shipped our next-gen hardware. That’s version 4 of the user terminal. So that allows us to lower the cost of Starlink.” said Musk.

According to the details, the Starlink V4 brings better portability and improved performance as well as dual-band capabilities for wide coverage and compatibility.

This terminal may also reduce power consumption and require less power to operate. More information about this V4 terminal is yet to arrive with sales.
