The software giant Microsoft on Thursday officially surpassed Apple as the most valuable company following a slow start for the iPhone maker.

The share of Microsoft was 1.6% at $2.875 trillion but Apple declined a bit to collect the market cap of $2.871 trillion. However, it’s the first time in the past two years, that the Redmon, Washington-based firm sprinted ahead of Apple in the valuation.

Apple in January slipped 3.3% in January as compared to a 1.8% increase in Microsoft to lead 2024.

The current downstream in Apple’s share is the result of reduced consumer interest in the recent iPhone lineup, which was launched in October last year.

Apple is also facing some new challenges in China, one of its largest markets.

Apple touched $3.081 trillion by December 14 and ended the entire year with a 48% rise but it was still below the 57% increase in Microsoft.

The growing stake in the Windows maker comes with its rising popularity in AI adaptation and massive investment at ChatGPT maker firm OpenAI.

Its Cloud business Microsoft Azure is also performing well in the cloud computing industry and competing head-to-head with Amazon web services and Google Cloud.
