Apple AirTag has been a useful tracker but the AirTag 2 version might not arrive until 2025 as it may bring some new improvements over its predecessor.

In his latest revelations at the weekly Power On newsletter, Mark Gurmn from Bloomberg said that Apple has plans for the next generation of AirTag. The device was initially planned for this year but later transitioned into 2025.

Apple’s AirTag is a tracking device that works as a finder and helps consumers locate lost objects or items such as keys or backpacks.

The delay in launch is also related to Apple’s current stock of AirTag devices, which is flooding its warehouse and Apple stores across the U.S.

In terms of upgrades, the AirTag 2 device is likely to bring a new Ultra-Wideband chip, which was also featured in the iPhone 15, Watch 9, and Ultra 2 series.

The new chip will help the AirTag to report further in distance, helping users to find the device at an extended range.

Apple released the first-gen AirTags in 2021 at $29 and it also comes with a few accessories including cases.
