iPhone 17 will bring a major front camera upgrade with 24MP lens: Analyst
There’s news coming from Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo revealing that Apple will make a major upgrade in the iPhone 17 series for the front camera section with a new 24MP lens.
Kuo said the front camera of iPhone 17 will receive an upgrade of a 24MP 6p lens. While the current iPhone 15 model uses a 12MP 5p lens, there’s an indication that the iPhone 16 will also retain a 12MP lens.
The use of a new high-quality lens will improve the image quality providing better selfies and front videography for the consumers.
The design of the new 24MP lens includes a 6p architecture including six plastic elements arranged in a specific configuration to contribute to better image quality.
In terms of advantages, a 6p lens has more potential to serve sharper images with reduced chromatic aberration. This is because the additional element can help to correct for various optical imperfections.
The 6p architecture in each lens design improves light intake for brighter pixels in low-light conditions. It means that the front-facing images will get better with that new 24MP 6p lens in iPhone 17.
6p lens also reduces distortion in images and could take it to the lowest compared to 5p lenses.
Supplier:
Kuo mentioned that Apple will fetch the new 24MP front-facing camera from Taiwan’s Genius Electronic Optical as a primary supplier.
The unit price of a 6p lens is about 100-120% higher than the 5p lens and it will raise some good revenue for Genus of about NT$3 billion in the launch year.
Launch Date:
For now, there’s no official launch date announced for iPhone 17 but the company will likely to unveil it in 2025.
