Vietnam’s VinFast acquires EV dealership in the US

Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker, VinFast has acquired a dealership in the U.S. and the company will start selling its car in the Triangle on Thursday.

VinFast has selected Leith Automotive as its first non-factory-owned dealership in the US. Leith and VinFast will bring electric cars to the Raleigh, Durham, and Cary areas.

The Raleigh-based Leith Automotive Group has a wide network of over 25 stores that includes Honda, Ford, Toyota, Kia, and Chrysler dealerships.

In addition, the Leith VinFast store is opened this week in the Cary Auto Park off U.S. 64. It is the only VinFast dealership in the U.S.

“We are very excited to be one of the first VinFast dealers and be the representation of VinFast as their first dealer in North Carolina, particularly alongside the state’s groundbreaking automobile manufacturing plant,” Leith’s chief operating officer Danny Williams said in a statement Wednesday.

Factory in North Carolina:

In March 2022, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced that VinFast would build an electric factory in Chatham County.

This includes a plan to generate 7,500 jobs at an average salary of $51,096 and an investment of $4 billion over the next four years.

Earlier this year, VinFast broke ground at its North Carolina electric vehicle factory located within the Triangle Innovation Point in Chatham County.

The plant will get a total of $2 billion of phase 1 investment at an area of 1,800 acres divided into five main production sites. These include a body shop, general assembly, press shop, paint shop,  an energy center as well as functional facilities.

The initial phase of production focuses on building VinFast’s VF 7, VF 8, and VF 9 electric vehicles, and the entire facility has a production facility of 150,000 vehicles per year.

VinFast has contracted Clayco for the plant’s construction and management of the project.

CES 2024:

A few days ago, VinFast confirmed that it’s participating in the 2024 CES in Las Vegas. The EV maker will showcase its new EV concept, eSUV VF 3 and all-electric VF 9 full-size SUV.
