Tesla is now confirmed to recall 120,000 vehicles over potential door faults that could open during a crash.

Information shared on December 21, 2023, by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that Tesla has acknowledged a malfunctioned door that could unlock during a crash, which could cause the door to unlatch and open, eventually increasing the risk of injury.

Tesla Model S and X from 2021 to 2023 are the ones included in this recall.

“As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, “Side Impact Protection,” wrote NHTSA in the problem description.

But there are no injuries that have been recorded with such an issue so far.

This door malfunction has been addressed via an over-the-air (OTA) software update. Car owners with this issue will receive notification letters before February 17.

The latest recall letter from NHTSA appeared after last week’s 2 million vehicle recall due to autosteer issues. This also led the company to disable the autosteer feature for about a week after the recall announcement.

Earlier this year, Tesla brought back over 360,000 vehicles related to full self-driving widely known as FSD.

Meanwhile, the California Department of Motor Vehicles accused Tesla of running false advertisements about Autopilot and FSD software.

However, the electric vehicle maker has denied these claims that California’s DMV has previously approved these terms. Read more below.
