High-end iPhone 17 to equip 48MP Telephoto camera

iPhone 17 Pro Max model could come with a 48MP telephoto zoom camera to improve its far-distance vision, says a new report.

Apple has been fetching its telephoto lens from Taiwan’s Largan Precision, and Macrumors found that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will also use Largan’s 48MP telephoto lens solution.

iPhone 15 Pro models sports a triple camera system including a 48MP main, 12MP ultra-wide angle, and a 12MP telephoto camera.

Jeff Pu, an analyst who covers Apple’s supply chain said that the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup will focus on ultra-wide-angle photography with a 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

This change in the camera technology would make the iPhone 17 Pro Max the first phone in the series to use an all-48MP camera solution.

Similarly, the analyst hints that iPhone 17 will debut with a Wi-Fi 7 modem, and the company is likely to produce this chip in-house. This could pose a threat to Broadcom, a major supplier of mobile Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chips.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg’s Apple insider, Mark Gurman said that Apple was developing its own unified Wi-Fi and Bluetooth solution for devices launching in 2025 onwards.

However, this input was later shot down by the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, saying that Apple has paused such development “for a while”. So, there’s no clue about the status of this development.

From the current launch tradition, the iPhone 16 series would launch in Q3-Q4 2024 and iPhone 17 in Q3-Q4 2025.
