Hyundai announced first EV only plant to boost production

Hyundai today announced the first dedicated electric vehicle (EV) only plant in Korea. This expansion focused on new energy vehicles and increased its production capacity to compete in the market.

Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung said the new plant will be located at Kia AutoLand Gwangmyeong and will be completed in the second quarter of 2024.

It will be used to produce new EV 3, a compact EV for domestic and global customers. There are also plans for further production line at the plant later on.

The Plant 2 of the Kia AutoLand Gwangmyeong is a historic site in Korea’s automotive industry since 1973 in Gyeonggi Province.

This transformation aligned with Hyundai Motor Group’s place in the top 3 global EV manufacturers by 2030. The plant could produce upto 150,000 electric vehicles.
