Most of the electric vehicle (EV) companies are now working on new models and Rivian also has plans for a new R2 model, which may fit into the same category as Tesla Model 3.

Rivian CEO, RJ Scaringe recently appeared at a podcast on “How I Built This” and shared some details about the ongoing progress with production and plans.

On a question about a new Rivian R2 model and its similarities with the Tesla Model 3, Scarings replied that “strategically, it’s very similar”.

However, the Rivian chief further explained his sentence. He said that Rivian started selling R1 at a higher price offering flagship features and more and the target is now to build more affordable cars.

It is expected that Rivian R2 may be unveiled by next year before making an official debut in 2026. That’s not it, the R2 could be on the first products manufactured at the new facility in Georgia.

This new plant expands to 1,800-care and it could become functional by 2026. The manufacturing plant was first announced in 2021 with a total investment of $5 billion.

The factory will output upto 400,000 vehicles per year. The company has selected Clayco construction firm to build this electric vehicle plant at Stanton Springs, Georgia.

When it comes to EVs, Tesla’s Model 3 captures most of the market with its growing demand among customers. Therefore, it’s also one of the most targeted models by its competitors.

Based on its statement, Rivian R2 may not be identical to the Tesla counterpart, instead, it could take a new route.
