Apple is working on a new iOS update 17.2.1 for iPhones and it could bring a bug fix for the Message app.

Macrumors reports that Apple may be testing the iOS 17.2.1 firmware version for iPhones. There are several versions detected ahead of the latest version including 17.0.3, 17.1.1, and 17.1.2.

It’s mentioned that this version could address an issue in the Message app which appeared after iOS 17.2. last week. A few of the users gave feedback that the messaging app is disappearing during app icon management.

For now, the firmware number doesn’t reveal the details of the changelog. At an estimate, the update may take about a month to release for the corresponding users.

A week ago, Apple made headlines with its iOS 17.3 beta release. This new test build added a new stolen device protection feature.

Apple says this feature adds a new layer of security in the unlikely case that someone has stolen your phone and also obtained your passcode.

Actions that will require Face ID or Touch ID authentication when the feature is turned on:

  • Viewing/using passwords or passkeys saved in iCloud Keychain
  • Applying for a new Apple Card
  • Viewing an Apple Card virtual card
  • Turning off Lost Mode
  • Erasing all content and settings
  • Taking certain Apple Cash and Savings actions in Wallet
  • Using payment methods saved in Safari
  • Using your iPhone to set up a new device

Actions that will require Face ID or Touch ID authentication and have a one-hour security delay when the feature is turned on:

  • Changing your Apple ID password
  • Updating select Apple ID account security settings, including adding or removing a trusted device, trusted phone number, Recovery Key, or Recovery Contact
